This time of year my house is pretty cold, so ice-cold smoothies are not too appealing. Some smoothies are great warm, and this apple smoothie is one of them. It strongly evokes apple pie, and it’s ready in minutes. The pecans step it up a notch and give it a little pseudo-buttery deliciousness.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1/4 cup pecans
2 apples (largish; quartered and cored)
1 thin slice ginger
Few shakes of cinnamon
Makes two medium servings or one large one.
Add all ingredients to container and blend on high until smooth. Garnish with a little cinnamon if you’re feeling fancy.
There are a few different ways of making it warm. You can:
- Start with hot water.
- Run it on high speed for about 5 minutes.
- Heat it with a microwave or stove after blending.
I personally favor starting with hot water. Then if it’s not quite hot enough after blending, you can keep blending a little longer to get it warmer.
I think it’s nice served just moderately warm (i.e. not piping hot like tea).
You can make similarly delicious warm smoothies using pumpkin or sweet potatoes.
Enjoyed a variation of your recipe. Being from Midwest, I substituted walnuts for the pecans. And to take it up another notch, I left out the ginger and added a Tbl of real maple syrup and 3 ounces of Goslings Bermuda Black Rum.
Excellent! Make it your own!
After her first long draft, my wife exclaimed, “That is DELICIOUS. …very comforting… It DOES taste like apple pie!”
