Stainless Steel Jar for Vitamix Blenders

Update: Check out my review of the Vitamix Stainless Steel container (released in July 2020). In my opinion, it is better than the Waring one described below. Here’s a direct link to the new container.

Stainless Steel Waring container on VitamixA number of people have asked me if there is a stainless steel or glass Vitamix jar. If you’ve been wondering, this page is for you!

Vitamix used to make their containers out of stainless steel, but in the early ’90s they switched over to transparent polycarbonate to allow you to see what you are blending. (The old stainless steel Vitamix containers are not compatible with the current Vitamix models.) Then in 2007 Vitamix switched over to BPA-free Tritan copolymer. Some people don’t like the way a plastic container gets scratched up over time, and others are concerned about preparing food in any sort of plastic container. Mother Jones has covered how BPA-free may not be helpful when it comes to avoiding estrogenic plastics.

I personally don’t think the risk is high, and I am continuing to use my Tritan containers, but I understand if you want to avoid them.

Waring makes a line of high speed blenders that uses the same 12-splined coupling that Vitamix does, and somewhat surprisingly, the Waring pitchers fit on current Vitamix models. Further, Waring makes a stainless steel container that fits the Vitamix drive shaft. Keep in mind, however, that neither Waring nor Vitamix have approved their products for use with the other company’s products, so if any damage occurs, the warranty may be voided. But this is the only stainless steel option for current Vitamix models. Another option is to buy the Waring model that comes with this container, although the Waring warranty is not as long as Vitamix’s, and they are not as home-customer friendly as Vitamix.

The other thing to note is that the rubber centering pad (the black rubber piece on the top of the base with four posts that the jar sits on) of the consumer Vitamix models is not a perfect fit for the Waring container. The posts are slightly too high. So instead of the container sitting on the pad, it sits on the tops of the posts, about 1/8″ off the pad. It is functional like this, but it seems slightly less stable, and it means that the drive shaft is not fully engaged. The gap looks like this:

Stainless Steel Waring container on Vitamix with gapI see a few options. You could just leave it, as is, and it would probably be fine. Or you could trim the posts by ~1/8″, although you would probably have to seal them because they are hollow, and I suspect that if you cut off the tops, then they would be open, which is non-ideal. I think you could seal them with some silicone glue.

The best option, in my opinion, is to get a different centering pad. It turns out that Vitamix makes a centering pad (15578) with shorter posts for some of their commercial models.

I checked, and the 15578 centering pad fits perfectly on the consumer Vitamix models. It allows you to use the Waring jar with no gap, and it also works with the Vitamix jars. The image at the top of this page shows the Waring Jar on a Vitamix 7500 using this 15578 centering pad, with no gap. (The centering pad is easy to swap on and off: it’s flexible, and it’s a pressure fit—you just pull it up, or push it on.)

This 15578 centering pad works on both C- and G-Series Vitamix models, which covers all of the home models sold since the early 1990s, with the exception of the smaller S-Series personal blenders. Here’s a link to the centering pad on Amazon. It also works on the commercial Vita-Prep and Advance machines. [Update: the 15578 centering pad does not fit on the Explorian Series, because Vitamix slightly changed the plastic posts that poke up into the pad. You can still use the CAC90 with the Explorian pad, but you will have the slight gap shown in the photo above. The CAC90 will not work with the Ascent Series, because it does not have a NFC chip.]

The stainless steel container is not cheap. Its price fluctuates on Amazon, so check for current prices.

Finally, keep in mind that the Vitamix tampers are not compatible with the Waring jar.

If you’re curious about what the different centering pads look like, clockwise from top left in the following images are the pads for the Vitamix Advance, Waring, Vitamix G-Series, and Vitamix C-Series:

Note the taller style posts on the C- and G-Series Vitamix pads. Also note the indentations on the bottoms of the Vitamix pads are identical (that’s where the four posts on the base secure the pad), but The Waring indentations are different. The Waring pad cannot be used on Vitamix bases.

And this is what the bottom of the Waring container looks like:

Stainless Steel Waring jar baseThe stainless steel jar blends satisfactorily. You obviously can’t see how things are blending as easily. I haven’t done this, but if you really miss the tamper, you could make your own out of wood dowels. (Drill through a smaller cross bar at the appropriate height to prevent it from hitting the blades.)

There is no glass jar for any high-speed blender. Vitamix has said that this is because of safety concerns. They do not want a glass jar to shatter when someone accidentally drops a metal spoon into it when it’s running.

  1. Hello Adam, Thank you for taking the time to answer questions from the rest of us who would rather reduce our contact with plastic. In addition to the 64 oz. stainless steel container you mentioned, I notice that Waring also makes one that’s 32 oz. which would serve my purposes much better. My question is, are they interchangeable?

    • The only stainless steel container I know of that works with a Vitamix is the 64-oz CAC90 mentioned above. Waring makes other stainless steel containers, but, as far as I know, they are for different-sized blenders that don’t use the same coupling.

  2. We own a vitaprep3 vitamin machine and have gone through 2 jars as the lid holder tabs are breaking off is their any way we can get a metal jar that would work for us

    • I’ve never heard of the lid tabs breaking before—strange! Also strange is that, last I saw, the Vita-Prep lids don’t have tabs…

The Vita-Prep 3 uses the same coupling as the 5200 and 7500, so you can use the metal jar as explained in the post above.

  3. Hi Adam, thanks for all the info. My plastic Vitamix container was all scratched up and started leaking out the bottom so I decided to order the Waring stainless steel container. I have made 4 smoothies so far and everything works great. It is more noisy with this container but that’s fine. I’ll let you know if I have any problems in the future with this. Thanks again! Lexie

  4. Great info !!!! I just finally got my blender after years of waiting and saving and was so disappointed to get plastic !!! Now I understand why and that there is an option!!!
    Thank you
I Love my vitamix and this site has helped make my purchase feel like the best gift I could give myself !!!!!??

  5. I trimmed the posts to make the Waring container fit. The amount cut is solid so there are no holes to fill in. I cut the posts with an exacto knife; didn’t measure anything and it works perfectly.

  6. hi
does the Waring stainless steel work for every new vitamix model
can’t find any info on internet
i have the 300 pro vitamix
    thanks

    • It won’t work with every new model, but it will work with C-Series and G-Series models. The Pro 300 is G-Series, and is in fact identical to the 7500 being used with the Waring CAC90 in the pictures above.

  7. Is there anything I need to do to switch out the blades from a Vitamix plastic container to a Waring stainless steel container? Or does the motor in the Vitamix base keep the blending smooth?

    • I’d recommend just using the Waring blades. They seem to do a perfectly good job. And I’m not sure if the Vitamix blades even properly fit the Waring container.

  8. I bought the warring steel container based on your page Thanks it is amazing.
Now I am hungry for more I want a spice grinder sized container, is there any really small container like that or a personal sized container like i had with the full set of the Ninja blender?

    • It’s funny you asked about that today. A few days ago Vitamix quietly put up on their website a “personal cup adapter.” Edit: it’s now available for order. I expect it to be available in a month or two.

I’ll write more about it when I can get my hands on one to try.

  9. Hi there. Thanks so much for this page! Will this Waring SS carafe work with a Vitamix Professional Series 750? This is what we have. Can’t tell if it’s a letter series that mentioned (C or G). Thanks!

  10. Is the WARING – 503346 (container listed on your Tundra link) the same as the CAC90 on Amazon but without the cover/lid? I think I will order from Tundra but just want to make sure I have the right item. Thank you!

    • I don’t know. I don’t think it’s designed to be. I would be concerned about the soft plastic/rubber of the lid and of the bearing seal at that temperature.

  11. I need a replacement jar for my vita mix, I would like a stainless steel one,Will CAC90 work on super5000 vita mix?

  12. Hi!

Regarding the plastic estrogenic activity there is so much we don’t know.

I’m thinking of a way to decently coat the inner of the Vitamix container with baking semi clear silicon mat or a silicon food safe sheet, even if we can coat say 80% of the area of direct plastic contact that would be nice.

I was thinking about gluing with a food safe glue (which one?
How “safe” would that be?) individual cut strips of silicone to fit the shape of the container, ideas?

If there is a real “food safe glue” maybe giving a layer of that inside of the container without anything else would be better than the plastic itself?

    Cheers

  13. Sorry if you already answered this – I didn’t see it on the thread – does the Waring stainless canister work on the Vitamix 780?
